BLACK HILLS

For years now, Big Buck Outfitters, Inc. has offered quality semi-guided hunts in the Black Hills of Wyoming – in fact, that is where the operation got started. This hunt offers you the opportunity to hunt – on your own – a couple of well-managed leases that are home to lots of deer.

A Big Buck Outfitters, Inc. representative meets clients in Sundance, Wyoming, the day before the hunt is to start, and together they drive out to the leases located approximately 8 miles west of town. There, the clients are given an overview of the boundaries and the benefit of Big Buck Outfitter's, Inc. thoughts about how to hunt the leases. Then, the client is free to hunt as he chooses for five days.

Historically, these hunts have resulted in high harvest success on eight point (Eastern count) or better whitetail bucks. Although the average deer harvested is generally a 3-year-old whitetail, 160-plus bucks have been taken from these leases in the past. One lease usually has some mule deer on it, and occasionally a good mulie buck, but the vast majority of deer will be whitetails.

The license is a Wyoming Region A deer tag, good for a mule deer or whitetail buck. The archery season is the month of September and the rifle season is the month of November, with hunt dates of November 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25.

Lodging and meals are the responsibility of the client, and the Best Western in Sundance is recommended as it is a newer construction with hot tub and indoor pool and competitive rates. Groups of up to four hunters are probably best, but a pair of hunters is an acceptable minimum and will be the only clients on the leases that week.
